Mrs. Stewart Brown Sr. is a patient in Watauga Hospital where she underwent surgery Tuesday. Mrs. Frank P. Barnhart of Burlington died Saturday morn ing. She is a sister of Mrs. W, L. High. Fine Arts Dept. To Meet Tonight The Fine Arts Department at the Worthwhile Woman’s Club will meet Thursday evening, March 19, at 7:30 at the home at Mrs. A. E. South, 313 North Street, Boone. Co-hostesses are Mrs. Her man W. Wilcox and Mrs. B, W. Ellis. Immediately following the meeting, there will be a short meeting of the executive com mittee of the General Club. Miss Jackson Is Shower Honoree Miss Ollie Jackson, bride elect of Scott Stanbery, was honored Saturday night with a bridal shower at the ASU Baptist Student Uhion. Hostess es were Mrs. Robert Larimore, Mrs. Baker Edmlsten and Mrs. Glenn Isaacs. A green and yellow color scheme was used and refresh ments were served to 20 guests. The tonoree received several useful Items and was re membered by the hostesses with a corsage and an electric mixer. The couple will be married Friday night, March 20, at Bethel view Methodist Church. Mrs. Ralph Wood and Miss Helen Jackson were hostesses for a surprise bridal shower honoring Miss Jackson Sunday afternoon at the home of the bride-elect’s [Brents. A color scheme of green and oraige was used for the event and the hostesses presented Miss Jackson a gift of linen. Some 30 persons attended. Senior Gtizens To Meet On Friday Senior Citizens of Watauga County will hold their mortbly meeting Friday, March 20 inthe Fellowship Hall at Grace Luth eran Church at 12 noon. Mrs. Marsha B. Brown, co ordinator of Volunteer Services at Western Carolina Center In Morganton will be the speaker anl show slides of the work at Western Carolina, An Invitation Is extended to those Interested In the work of the center. STEVE RICHARD GURLEY Clawson-Gurley Wedding The Meat Camp Baptist Church was the setting Satur day for the 2 p. mc wedding of Miss Nina Sue Clawson to Steve Richard Gurley. The Rev. Arch ie Clawson, brother of the bride, and the Rev, John Goodman per formed the double-ring cere mony, A program of wedding music was presented by Mr. Barney Hodgson. Escorted by her brother, Rob ert Clawson, the bride wore a full length gown of white peau de sole which was made by her mother. The gown featured an empire waist and was accented with lace on the sleeves and skirt. Her original headpiece was designed and made by Mrs. Gertrude Storie. The tiered silk illusion veil encircled with bride’s lace was attached to a cabbage rostf studded with s e ed pearls and she carried a bouquet of mixed white flowers. Mrs. Paul Combs of Raleigh was her sister’s only attendant. She was attired in a dress of kelly green crepe with match ing accessories and carried a longstemmed yellow rose. Mr. Gurley served as his son's best man. Ushers were Rtli Clawson, brother of the bride, and Ren Best. Mrs. Gurley is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willie R. Claw son of Boone and is a March graduate of Appalachian State University where she majored in sociology. A senior geography major at East Carolina Univer sity, her husband is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gurley of Morganton. A cake cutting was heldinthe church fellowship hall following the rehearsal Friday night. Jhe couple will make their home in Greenville, N. C. MR. AND MRS. SHANKES Married In Wyandotte, Micliigan Miss Freda Sherrlene Epley and Pvt. Charles Michael Shankes of Melvindale, Mich.* were married Friday, March 6, in a 6 o’clock ceremony in the Victory Baptist Church of Wyandotte, Mich, The double-ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. W. C. Henson of Dearborn Heights. Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Epley of Melvindale, Mrs. Shankes also is the granddaugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Luther Har mon of Boone. Her husband is serving in the Armed Forces at Ft, Knox, Ky. Wedding music was provided by close friends of the couple. Given in marriage by her fath er, the bride wore a five-tier gown of white satin and lace with long ruffled sleeves and scallop ed neckline. Her three-tier mantilla was held by a petal steped headpiece and she car ried a bouquet of white carna tions. The wedding was a rainbow of color with all attendants wearing identical dresses in pastel shades of chiffon over satin. The Matron of Honor, Mrs. Crystal Baumdraher, wore green in her sister's wed ding. Nflss Patricia Shankes, maid of honor, wore blue. One bridesmaid wore orchid and the other wore pink. The flower girls, sisters of the bride, were attired in short dresses match ing the colors worn by the honor maids. Rii^jbearer was Master Gary Shankes and best man was Christopher Poppof. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a floor length gown of white lace over bridal satin which was made by her aunt. She carried a bou quet of red roses and white stephanotis. For something old she wore a ring which belonged to her great-great aunt. Wearing a floor length gown of emerald green velveteen. Miss Karol Parr, cousin of the bride of New Holland, was bridesmaid. A reception for the immediate family was held at the bride’s home following the ceremony. After spending some time in North Carolina, the couple is now residing in South Carolina where AMN Hayes is stationed at Shaw AFB. Mrs. Wayne Richardson in troduced Mr. Wade Wilmoth, a Boone business man, who gave the program for the evening. He talked on selling yourself to the public. . If we wish to be accepted warmly by others we need to show a genuine interest in what they have to say. When we listen to others and show an apprecia tion for their ideas, they im mediately feel important, Re membering other people's names help, because our own names are the sweetest words we ever hear.
